40th Birthday Party Ideas

For both men and women, that 40th birthday is a turning point. While older people may say, "Oh, you’re still a young person!", somehow this sentiment doesn’t ring quite true. The soon to be 40 year old realizes that while they’re not exactly a senior yet, those last ten years flew by far too quickly. They now know that the next ten will flash by even more quickly.
Women start making daily examinations in the mirror for the tiniest of new wrinkles, weighing themselves more often and scrutinizing their bodies for signs of age. A gray hair will most certainly put them in a tizzy. Men are equally sensitive, but in different areas. A gray hair won’t give them a seizure, as it’s well known that women find this makes a man look ‘distinguished’. However, having to buy a new, longer belt is enough to send them to the gym every day. Some men will go so far as to buy a sporty car, in hopes of reviving what they believe to be their fading youth. So reaching that 40th year isn’t easy for either gender.
If you’re the one throwing a party for someone attaining this milestone in life, here are some 40th birthday party ideas that are designed to make the guest of honor feel that turning 40 is not so bad after all. In fact, it might be the best celebration ever!

Avoid Foreclosures

There are so many reasons you might be faced with the problem of paying your mortgage. In fact, there are millions of people suffering this problem. Due in large part to massive numbers of laid-off workers and irresponsible lenders, foreclosures are now big news. If you find yourself worrying about meeting next month’s mortgage payment, or if you have already fallen behind, here are several steps you should take immediately in order to avoid foreclosure by your lender. It’s important to understand that, while the lender wants payment, foreclosure is not a good option from the lender’s perspective.
The first task you want to tackle is your budget. Cut out any unnecessary expenditures. Go over your bills with a fine tooth comb. Be ruthless. Expenses such as cable or satellite services are luxuries. If you have credit card debt, it’s far better to delay those payments while you concentrate on avoiding foreclosure.
Your next step is to inspect your loan documents. Find out what steps your lender can take should you fail to make a payment. Foreclosure laws vary by state, so you’ll want to contact your state’s housing office for specifics, such as the time period you’re looking at before action may be taken by the lender.

Why Are Nursing Homes Buying The Nintendo Wii For Their Patients

One of the many goals of a nursing home is to keep their patients as active as possible. It may not be possible for them to get out as much as they once did but they can still take part in many activities. It may surprise you to find out that many nursing homes are buying the Nintendo Wii for their patients.
This is due to the many interactive games they can play. For example the interactive bowling game allows even those in their wheelchairs to follow through the process of rolling an imaginary ball. Then they watch on the screen as the pins fall down. They can be seen being very competitive with each other and having a great time with the games.
Tennis is another interactive Nintendo Wii game that the older patients really seem to enjoy. Many of them will tell you stories about playing such sports in their youth as well. This can bring back wonderful memories that they may not have thought about for a while. Even if they have never played a real game of tennis in their life they are having a great time playing it now.

Latin American Recipes

When most Americans hear Latin American recipes they automatically think of Mexican food. While Mexican food is delicious and well represented in most major U.S. cities (though conspicuously absent from Miami for some reason), there are also great Latin American recipes and dishes from other countries and you will be missing out if you don’t know about them. One of the greatest countries for culinary delights and food completely different from Mexican food is the big island nation of Cuba.
Cuba, located just 90 miles off the southern tip of Florida in the warm waters of the Caribbean, has always been a Mecca for food lovers. Ever since the great author Ernest Hemingway went ex-pat and decided to spend the rest of his life there, living and fishing off the coast of Varadero and Havana, Cuba has attracted tourists and culture lovers from around the world. Even though the U.S. has had an embargo on the island since the 1960s when Castro plotted with the Soviets and built missile launch sites throughout the island, most of the rest of the world has not shared our disdain for the sovereign nation. Tourists, fun and adventure seekers from all over the world, and culinary gourmets have been coming to the island country for many, many years. They have discovered the wonderful traditional foods of Cuba, many of which owe their heritage to Spain and Africa, a powerful blend of old world and new.
One of the staples of everyday Latin American recipes from Cuba is the simple "potaje" (pronounced po-ta-he) or soup of black beans. Served over plain white rice, this simple dish is perfectly seasoned and served as a side dish with lots of other traditional Cuban fare such as fried plantains (sweet or salty), fritters, croquettes, or thinly cut French fries.
