Dawsons Game and Trout Lodge lies in the vicinity of Badplaas around four hours out of Joburg in a eye-catching setting encompassed by hillsides along with a trout lake. In addition to the Lodge, there is also a cottage beside the trout lake which is great for anyone who wants to catch trout. The vast majority of our travel friends remained at the Lodge whilst I slept down in the thatched roof stone cottage. It is a self-catering unit which is wonderfully outfitted and also has satellite tv. The size and style makes it well suited for a family of 4 or 5 people who desire their own personal living space.

We got there late afternoon which meant there wasn't much time to accomplish a single thing immediately following check-in prior to dinner was ready. Prior to the evening meal, we had been asked to watch the chief cook show us the way to prepare a trout and though I'm not a fish eater, it was very interesting. It is always astonishing how effortless professionals make their job look.

Just like just about everywhere we stayed, the food was fabulous and the entire group dined together on one long table which added to the experience.

The next day soon after a terrific breakfast, there was the option to experience many things to do which include archery, quad bikes and horse riding but many of us decided to take pleasure from the opportunity to sleep in a lttle bit longer than we had been able to all week. I had got up early to try and capture some images as the sun rose. It's a beautiful sight in the African wilderness to wake up as it gets light then to see the shadows thrown by the hills retreat as the sun advances. The early morning mist rapidly faded away and a wonderful blue sky was rapidly in its place.

Sadly there was not much time to experience everything at Dawsons Lodge but you can find a good amount of activities available such as bird watching, game viewing (no predators), fly fishing, hiking and walking, horseback safaris, archery, clay pigeon shooting and quad biking. Dawsons Lodge is also a perfect location for weddings where the happy couple can relax just after their special day in the spa and wellness facilities.
