There are actually a few different options that are considered as being the best striped bass fishing lure, and which will be talked about in detail here.
Plastic Worm
The plastic work is one of the best options for a striped bass fishing lure, and one that is not given nearly enough credit. These plastic worms are probably accounted for more bass than any other kind of bait and you can get any size you want pretty much. There are all the different colors of the rainbow that are available for the plastic worms, and so no matter which style and color that you may be interested in and have available to you.
Another great thing about plastic worms is that most to all fishing gear stores offer them and so they are always readily available, certainly never hard to find.

Another great option for a striped bass fishing lure is the spinnerbait. These lures catch a lot of bass and are just fun to look at too. The spinnerbaits are also available in a variety of sizes, colors and styles and so you definitely are never lacking in terms of options here.
Topwater Plugs
One choice for the best striped bass fishing lure but which is not talked about nearly enough is the topwater plug. This really offers for the most exciting fishing adventure, because you get huge splashes when you have a bass on the line. You can get a lot of colors, sizes and actions in topwater baits and so this is a great choice to have in your tackle box.
Make sure that you have a large selection of lures available in your tackle box at all times. There are many to choose from and this way you know that when you get out on the water you are always going to have plenty of choose from.
Where are the good areas to catch striped bass in the S.F. Bay Area and what bait/lures are best?
I'm hoping to find some stripers this weekend, May 9-11, so your answers are really appreciated. Also, if you know where one can use a casting net to gather shad or other bait fish, that would help immensely. Thanks!
You can catch stripers from the deep water port in Stockton to the golden gate bridge. The rock wall off of San Quinten is good, as is the area around the SF airport. Try drifting live bullheads or anchovies and you may land a halibut or a leopard shark along with your striped bass. Both baits are readily available in the bay area.
If you want to catch your own, rather than using a casting net for shad, which are real hard to come by in the bay area, try a small sabiki rig or snagging rig to catch herring or smelt.
